How to contest a parking ticket in Las Vegas
Parking tickets issued by the City of Las Vegas are reviewed by the city's Parking Services office. You can file a Level 1 appeal if you have made no payments and the ticket is within 30 days of its issue date. Appeals can be filed up to 90 days from the original notice, but late penalties may apply after 30 days.
Level 1 appeals are reviewed on paper by an administrative appeal committee, with no appearance required, so include all of your evidence up front: permits, registration, photos, receipts or medical records. You can appeal online through the city's parking portal or mail the request form to Parking Services at 350 S. City Parkway. Do not make a payment, since that cancels the appeal.
Some issues, such as current registration, a valid placard or a paid meter receipt, may qualify for an administrative fine reduction, so call Parking Services at 702-229-4700 first. Decisions arrive by email and letter. If you still owe a balance, you have 30 days to pay, set up a plan, or request a binding Level 2 hearing.
What to do, step by step
Check the deadline
In Las Vegas you generally have 30 days from the ticket date to contest it. Missing it can add late penalties.
Gather your evidence
Photograph the signs, curb markings, meter or pay station, and where your car was parked. Keep receipts, permits and any repair or police records.
Write your appeal
Answer the questions above. Keep it short and factual — reviewers read a lot of these, and a calm, specific letter with evidence is the most persuasive.
Submit it on time
Submit online through City of Las Vegas Parking Services, or mail it to 350 S. City Parkway, Las Vegas, NV 89106. Keep a copy and proof that you sent it.
Follow up
If the Level 1 decision finds a balance owing, you have 30 days to pay, set up a payment plan, or request a Level 2 appeal. A Level 2 appeal is a final, binding in-person hearing before a Hearing Officer.
What if your appeal is denied?
A denial at the first review isn't the end. Most cities offer at least one more level — usually a hearing in person, by phone or by mail — where a different person looks at your evidence.
In Las Vegas: If the Level 1 decision finds a balance owing, you have 30 days to pay, set up a payment plan, or request a Level 2 appeal. A Level 2 appeal is a final, binding in-person hearing before a Hearing Officer.
Keep every notice and receipt. If you win at a later stage, any amount you paid is normally refunded.

Re: Request for review of parking citation 4012345678 — license plate 7XYZ442
To whom it may concern:
I am writing to contest parking citation 4012345678, issued on September 20, 2026 at 300 block of Main St to the vehicle with license plate 7XYZ442. I respectfully ask that the citation be dismissed.
Reason for contesting: The signs were missing, unclear or blocked.
The only no-parking sign on the block was covered by overgrown tree branches. Photos I took a few minutes after finding the ticket show the sign could not be seen from where I parked.
I have included the following evidence in support of this request: Two dated photos of the covered sign and a map showing where my car was parked.
I am submitting this Level 1 appeal within 30 days of the citation's issue date, by October 20, 2026, and I have not made any payment on it. I have included all of my evidence with this request.
Please review this citation and dismiss it. I would appreciate written confirmation of your decision, sent to the address above.
Sincerely,
Alex Morgan
Frequently asked questions
How long do I have to appeal a parking ticket in Las Vegas?
The city lets you file a Level 1 appeal if the ticket is within 30 days of its issue date and you have made no payments. You can still appeal up to 90 days from the original notice, but late penalties may apply, so filing within 30 days is best.
Do I have to appear in person for a Las Vegas parking appeal?
Not for Level 1. These appeals are decided by an administrative appeal committee based on the documents, photos and explanation you submit, so send all your evidence with the request. A Level 2 appeal, if you need one, is an in-person hearing.
What happens if I pay while my Las Vegas appeal is pending?
The city treats any payment received after your appeal request as giving up the appeal, and your review is cancelled. Wait for the decision, which arrives by email and then by letter. Contact Parking Services if you hear nothing within three weeks.
Can I appeal a Level 1 decision in Las Vegas?
Yes. You can request a Level 2 appeal within 30 days of the decision. It is a scheduled, in-person hearing before a Hearing Officer, and the decision is final and binding. Unpaid balances after that can lead to a civil judgment, collections and vehicle immobilization.
Is it worth contesting a parking ticket?
If you have a genuine reason and some evidence — a hidden sign, a broken meter, a valid permit or a ticket with wrong details — a written appeal costs little and succeeds often enough to be worth the few minutes it takes.
What evidence helps the most?
Clear, dated photos of the signs, curb and meter; payment receipts or permits; and anything showing the ticket's details are wrong, such as the wrong plate or vehicle make.
